Jefferson, Texas
As you arrive on Jefferson’s downtown strip, unique stores, restaurants and other attractions are buzzing with life. This is a typical holiday weekend for Jefferson. However, there is one attraction that provides almost the standing still of time— The Museum of Measurement and Time.
A Look Backward
Whenever a visitor enters The Museum of Measurement and Time, they can expect to be greeted by the friendly local owner, Johnny Ingram. The first thing you will notice is a range of assorted educational and creative writings. Beyond that, the vast collection of nearly entirely American-made clocks line the walls and display cabinets for all to see.
As much as the History lies in the artifacts, it also lies in the Museum’s founder.
Johnny Ingram began as a land surveyor and over time, developed a deep passion for all things measurement. Time is not only part of measurement, but it is an essential component to measurement, which is why this Museum focuses on both Measurement and Time. However, there is so much more to learn at The Museum of Measurement and Time. Among the many handouts for visitors are poems that even include events that Jefferson holds:
“On a special weekend, over a couple of days.
Our town is lucky, in several ways.
For as bikers gather, all in a crowd.
The noise they make is really loud.
The event is to raise money for a special cause.
The result of which, buys a lot of gauze.
Victims of fire, all benefit.
From Monies raised during this event.
We rejoice, “Let the motorcycles roar”.
They are welcome, maybe invite more!
Eventually, the sounds will go away.
And the effort was worthy, that’s all we can say.”
